Candy's Triple Ironman Report - 2006
I'm sure a race report for the triple ironman will be exceptionally dull, as it was a small race (at least in terms of the number of entrants) and nothing particularly interesting happened. However quite a few people have asked for one, so here goes. Don't blame me when it's totally boring though.
Also I should point out that moving up from ironman distance isn't _that_ hard. I think a lot of people on the forum have been grossly overestimating the difficulty. It would be much more difficult, for example, to knock an hour off my ironman PB, or even 15 minutes off my marathon PB (or, I'm sure, 2 minutes off my 5k PB, if I had one). OK it takes a lot longer, but you don't have to push yourself to anything like the same extent. Going longer is definitely easier than going faster at the same distance.
Pre-race
As everybody knows, the most important pirate rule (in fact the only pirate rule) is "always try something new on race day". Anyone caught ignoring this all-important principle is immediately stripped of all rank and privileges. And the tougher the event, the more fundamental the race day experimentation required - so for the triple I would obviously have to come up with something pretty exceptional to try out for the first time during the race.
